Veeam produces the world’s best Availability solutions. Over the last two years, our customers have become increasingly interested in Availability solutions in the cloud, specifically in Microsoft Azure. Veeam has always been and continues to be hardware agnostic. We always let our customers choose their preferred hardware, or in this case cloud provider. With that said, Veeam has built six show-stopping innovations for our customers who are looking to use Veeam with Microsoft Azure to strengthen their Availability story in the hybrid cloud.
Certified Veeam VMs in the Azure Marketplace
Veeam has two certified VMs called Veeam Cloud Connect for Service Providers, and Veeam Cloud Connect for the Enterprise that are available in the Azure Marketplace. Whether you’re a service provider providing Azure-based hosted Backup as a Service (BaaS) to your customers, or an enterprise customer managing your own off-site backup archives, Veeam Cloud Connect provides a fully integrated, fast and secure way to archive and restore Veeam-powered backups from Azure. These VMs can be provisioned in less than 30 minutes and can provide connections from a customer’s on-premises Veeam environment to Azure page blob storage. Customers can then build long-term archives of their Veeam backups in Microsoft Azure. Recently, Microsoft announced that it will enable all Azure customers to access and use disks in Azure up to 4TB in size (previously 1TB). This enhancement (due out later this year) means that Veeam customers can fully realize a more cost-effective solution using a Veeam virtual appliance to back up four times as much data in Azure Storage. And, Veeam archives in Microsoft Azure offer file level granular recovery back to the customer’s on-premises environment or recovery to Microsoft Azure.
Veeam and an Azure appliance
Azure has another flavor of storage called block blob storage. This storage is accessed directly and is not subject to 1 or 4 TB limitations like page blob storage. Veeam supports the use of several physical and virtual appliances to provide access to Azure block blob storage. This solution maintains metadata information about the data which has been moved from Veeam on premises to Azure block blob storage. The customer can easily recover data from Azure archives back to their on-premises environments or to Microsoft Azure.
Veeam data repository with Azure block blob storage
What if you want to use Azure block blob storage and not use an appliance? This year at VeeamON, there was an announcement that the NEW Veeam Availability Suite v10 (available late 2017) will come with support for data repositories that are directly connected to Azure block blob storage. This will give customers all the benefits of Azure block blob storage without the need for an appliance.
Veeam Direct Restore to Microsoft Azure
Veeam Direct Restore to Microsoft Azure does exactly what its name suggests. If you have a backup that is archived in Microsoft Azure, you can restore it in Microsoft Azure. This includes archives of physical machines or VMs from both VMware and Hyper-V. So cool!
Veeam PN for Microsoft Azure
Veeam PN for Microsoft Azure is a FREE solution designed to simplify and automate the setup of a disaster recovery (DR) site in Microsoft Azure using lightweight software-defined networking (SDN). It helps maintain business continuity and Availability by reducing the complexity of VPN deployments and is designed for businesses of ALL sizes, including service providers.
Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365
Veeam also provides world class backup for Microsoft Office 365 allowing customers to back up Exchange data from Office 365 and build archives in their on-premises environment. The customer can then recover back to Office 365 or to their own on-premises environment. During VeeamON 2017, we announced future support for both OneDrive and SharePoint, available later this year.
Veeam is committed to delivering Availability in the private cloud and in the public cloud.
